Celebrate Your Hair Journey

It’s easy to get invested in other women’s hair journeys. I still remember when I saw the photo of Solange’s big chop back in 2009. I’ve been following her styles ever since. Tracee Ellis Ross has been another hairspiration of mine. One episode of Blackish can give me months’ worth of style ideas. But it’s not just celebrities who inspire me. I’m the first to remind my friends how long their hair has come or to hype up my friends when they make a style change. So why is so hard for me to do the same for myself? I’m convinced that we can all do a little better at celebrating our hair journeys. Here are a few ways that you can celebrate your growth.

Take a compliment

It’s so easy to downplay our hair growth, but an unsolicited compliment normally speaks the truth. Next time someone compliments you on your hair, resist the urge to deflect. Instead, accept it with grace and let it serve as a reminder of just how far you’ve come.

Throw it back

You don’t have to wait until Thursdays to look through your old photos. Take a walk down memory lane. Look at your teeny weeny afro. Notice the thin patches that used to make you self-conscious. Let yourself feel all the feelings, and then take a look in the mirror. Celebrate the progress you’ve made.

Treat yourself

Notice what products have helped you come this far, and treat yourself to more of the same. Did Shedavi’s Hair Growth Starter Bundle play a major role in getting your hair to where it is? Maybe it’s time to place another order. Splurge on treatments at the hair salon or some quality hair tools.

Try something new

Sometimes the best way to celebrate your growth is to try something different. Rock a style that you couldn’t have worn months ago. Choose a new cut that will better show off your locks. Dye your hair an adventurous color. Taking the next step in your hair journey is one of the best ways to celebrate.

I’m going to take some time to celebrate my hair growth with some deep conditioning and a selfie session. How are you going to celebrate your hair journey? Show how Shedavi helps you celebrate with #shedavi for a chance to be featured.
